Please send your application to infodesk@endeavor.or.jp Application form Guideline / Schedule (Washi) / Schedule (Sumi-Washi) / About Echizen Studio MI-LAB “Washi Program” with Kyoko Hirai / Profile(PDF) The aim of MI-LAB “Washi Program” is for artists to deepen their understanding of washi (Japanese paper) and apply the knowledge effectively to their Mokuhanga (water-based woodblock print) production. The specific goals and approach of the program are as follows: 1.Deepening understanding of washi The program provides artists with an opportunity to learn traditional techniques and knowledge related to washi production. Through the guidance of traditional craftspeople, artists are expected to gain a deeper understanding of its manufacturing process, and to become more sensitive to the characteristics and quality of washi. 2. Using washi in Mokuhanga production The program aims to improve artists’ ability to create more expressive works using Mokuhanga techniques based on their understanding of the characteristics and quality of washi. 3. Experts guidance The program will have a professional printer Kyoko Hirai as a guest instructor to provide practical guidance. This will allow artists to gain know-how that will be useful in their actual production in the delicate relationship between washi and Mokuhanga. 4. Focus on important points The program will focus on the important points in selection of washi. Artists will gain an understanding of the cultural and historical significance and characteristics of washi and be more conscious of incorporating it into their own work. The specific goals and approach of the program are as follows: 1. Deepening understanding of washi The program provides artists with an opportunity to learn traditional techniques and knowledge related to washi production.
