Having moved to Echizen, and having held the 5th<\/sup> IMC successfully,we would like to propose Mokuhanga artists to continue exploration of washi. We are pleased to offer you the following two thematical programs in early 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

MI-LAB “Washi Program”<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The aim of MI-LAB “Washi Program” is for artists to deepen their understanding of washi <\/em>(Japanese paper) and apply the knowledge effectively to their Mokuhanga<\/em> (water-based woodblock print) production. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The specific goals and approach of the program are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1.Deepening understanding of washi<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The program provides artists with an opportunity to learn traditional techniques and knowledge related to washi <\/em>production. Through the guidance of traditional craftspeople, artists are expected to gain a deeper understanding of its manufacturing process, and to become more sensitive to the characteristics and quality of washi.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Using washi<\/em> in Mokuhanga<\/em> production<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The program aims to improve artists’ ability to create more expressive works using Mokuhanga<\/em> techniques based on their understanding of the characteristics and quality of washi<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Experts guidance<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The program will have a professional printer Kyoko Hirai as a guest instructor to provide practical guidance. This will allow artists to gain know-how that will be useful in their actual production in the delicate relationship between washi<\/em> and Mokuhanga<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Focus on important points<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The program will focus on the important points in selection of washi<\/em>. Artists will gain an understanding of the cultural and historical significance and characteristics of washi<\/em> and be more conscious of incorporating it into their own work.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The aim of MI-LAB “Washi Program” is for artists to deepen their understanding of washi <\/em>(Japanese paper), sumi (Japanese ink) and their relationship, and effectively apply the knowledge to their Mokuhanga<\/em> (water-based woodblock print) production. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The knowledge and techniques gained from Yuasa’s experience will be useful and valuable for artists. Through Yuasa’s practical instruction, artists will be able to hone their own techniques and approaches in the creation of Mokuhanga using sumi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Focus on important points<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The program will focus on the interaction and combination of washi and sumi. By understanding the unique characteristics and compatibility of washi and sumi, artists will gain the knowledge to create works that are more delicate and versatile in expression.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
