Message<\/td>In mokuhanga, turning the image in the mind into a concrete form requires multiple steps. The image must be reversed, the colors must be grouped, and the woodblocks must be carved little by little. The artist must work with woodblocks, washi paper, and other materials while engaging in a conversation with the image. The materials serve as a medium between the artist and the work created. Sometimes the initially conceived image is represented in a slightly different way. I am attracted to such incidental discrepancies as well as to the soft and pale texture of mokuhanga works. Plants and vegetables I grow in my garden and the landscape around where I live often appear as motifs in my works. I am inspired by the vitality, colors, and shapes found in them.
I value stimulating encounters with artists who come to MI-LAB from various backgrounds. I hope to together explore the depth of mokuhanga.<\/td><\/tr>
