Message

Born in Echizen City, I graduated from local schools, including Kunitaka Elementary School, the Third Junior High School of Takefu, and Takefu High School. I earned a B.A. in International Relations from Tsuda College, an M.A. in International Studies from the University of Oregon, and a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I spent 12 years as a faculty member in Sociology at Sarah Lawrence College and the University of Wisconsin-Superior, followed by 10 years as the Director of Institutional Planning, Assessment, and Research at Winona State University. While my husband and two cats remain at home in Minnesota, I am currently residing in Echizen City and working as an interpreter, high school English instructor, and temple priest. I have a wide range of interests, including MS Excel, project management, yoga, Aikido, hiking, cooking, and traveling. My initial connection with MI-LAB began when I served as an interpreter at the 2024 International Mokuhanga Conference in Echizen. Since then, I have become actively involved in MI-LAB’s Artist-in-Residence programs, continually inspired by the passion and talent of Mokuhanga artists, instructors, and washi artisans. As an interpreter, I strive to facilitate meaningful intercultural communication.

越前市生まれ。国高小学校、武生第三中学校、武生高校を卒業後、津田塾大学で国際関係で学士号、米国オレゴン大学で国際学の修士号、さらにイリノイ大学で社会学の博士号を取得する。 サラ・ローレンス大学およびウィスコンシン大学スペリオル校で社会学の助教授・準教授を12年間務めた後、ミネソタ州ウィノナ州立大学で大学機関調査長として10年間勤務。ミネソタ州の自宅には夫と猫2匹がいるが、現在は私情により越前市に単身赴任中。通訳、高校英語講師、寺院僧侶として多方面で活動している。 趣味はエクセル、プロジェクトマネジメント、ヨガ、合気道、山歩き、料理、旅行と多岐にわたる。 MI-LABとのご縁は、2024年度国際木版画会議で通訳を務めたことがきっかけ。その後、MI-LABにて通訳を担当する機会を頂き、参加アーティストやインストラクター、和紙職人の方々の熱意と才能に感銘を受け続けている。通訳として、異文化間コミュニケーションの架け橋となれるよう努めていきたい。
