When I first began Mokuhanga, I thought that once I got tired of it, I would return to painting or perhaps switch to a completely different medium. However, my curiosity and passion for woodblock printing have never faded.Recently, I have been learning more about essential materials used in Mokuhanga, such as paper and pigments, and I have become more deliberate in selecting them. Understanding how washi and sumi ink are made adds new stories to my artwork. The more I learn about where the materials come from, who makes them, and the processes behind their creation, the deeper and more meaningful the work becomes.A work of art is never completed by one person alone. I believe it is created through the labor, effort, and passion of many people.
